Sicily Active with this Grand tour of Mount Etna will take you to visit the Serracozzo trail one of the most scenic and breathtaking Mount Etna hike. With a six-hour hike along a fourteen-kilometer-long trail on the slopes of the highest active volcano on the European continent, away from the beaten path you'll get to see the best that Etna has to offer. During the six hours walk, we will cross-sections of woods, ancient lava flows and will reach the lava desert edge. Along our trekking using helmets and torches, we will descend into the lava cave and finally, we will face the immense and lunar Valle del Bove, a geological wonder with craters, recent lava flows, and majestic dikes. The view over the Mediterranean Sea, Taormina, and the Sartorius craters will be worth all the effort.

Escursion Details

One of our guides will pick you up in Taormina or Giardini Naxos, with one hour drive will reach, the beginning of the trail on the slopes of Etna at an altitude of 1700 meters at the Rifugio Citelli, on the north-east side of the volcano. The first twenty minutes We will be hiking through Mount Etna forest, after sixty minutes we reach Serracozzo at an altitude of 1920 meters, here we will stop for a short break before visiting the homonymous cave. The second part of the trek will take us on the ridge of the Valle del Bove at an altitude of 2100 meters. After stopping to admire the lunar landscape of the Bove valley, we will continue to climb up to Pizzi DeNeri at an altitude of 2800 meters following the ridge of the north-east wall that encloses Mt etna Bove valley. If the group does not want to reach an altitude of 2500 meters the hike will reach a maximum of 2200 meters before descending towards the splendid birch forest and the Sartorius craters a geological jewel of great scenic beauty. The positive gain in height of this trek can vary from 1000 meters to 500 meters, according to the path that we will follow once we reach the altitude of 2200 meters.
