Experience a guided Mount Etna Summit Hike reaching the upper summit area at up to 3340 meters, in compliance with official volcanic safety regulations. This full-day excursion departs from Piano Provenzana on the north side of the volcano, near Taormina, and combines a Unimog off-road jeep ascent from 1,800 to 3,000 meters with a high-altitude volcanic trek across lava fields, craters, and panoramic ridgelines.
Designed for active travellers, this summit craters trek offers a more technical and immersive experience compared to standard Etna tours. Pick-up & Meeting
Pick-up is available directly from your hotel or from a convenient meeting point close to your accommodation (Taormina, Giardini Naxos or nearby areas).
Departure is scheduled around 7:30 a.m. depending on your location.
We drive towards Piano Provenzana, on the north side of the volcano — the wildest and least crowded route to the summit craters.

Ascent by Unimog Car 4x4
FFrom Piano Provenzana, a Unimog 4x4 off-road vehicle takes us to approximately 3000 meters.
This allows us to begin the high-altitude trekking phase with optimal energy management.
Summit Area Trek
From around 3000m, the guided hike develops across volcanic terrain.

Questions and Answers
Is the cable car included?
Yes. If the tour operates from the South side (Rifugio Sapienza), the cable car is used and included in the price.
If conditions require departure from the North side (Piano Provenzana), we use authorized off-road 4x4 vehicles from approximately 1800m to 2900m — also included in the price.
How difficult is the hike?
The Mount Etna Summit Hike is considered moderate to challenging and is recommended for active participants.
Can we always reach 3320 meters?
The maximum altitude depends on official volcanic safety regulations.
In approximately 99% of cases, when the tour operates as scheduled, we reach the summit area. Only in rare situations — due to sudden weather changes or safety restrictions — the itinerary may be adapted.
What happens in case of bad weather?
The tour will be cancelled free of charge.
Are trekking boots included?
Yes, boots and walking poles are provided.
