From Alcantara Valley to Mount Etna
The Etna quad tour starts in the Alcantara Valley at about 300 meters above sea level. After the meeting point, the guide provides a short briefing and driving introduction, especially for participants who have never driven a quad before.
Off-road route to Castiglione di Sicilia
The first part of the route develops across dirt roads and countryside tracks that climb toward the medieval village of Castiglione di Sicilia, one of the most scenic villages of the Alcantara Valley.
Crossing the old railway tunnels
From Castiglione the route follows part of the old Alcantara railway line, crossing five tunnels carved into the mountain. This section allows participants to experience a unique landscape between historic infrastructure and volcanic terrain.
Scenic ascent toward Mount Etna
After reaching the base of Mount Etna, the tour continues with a 7 km panoramic ascent on asphalt along the winding roads of the volcano. This stretch allows participants to gain altitude quickly while enjoying views over the Etna slopes.
Off-road through Etna forests
Once at higher altitude the route returns off-road, entering the forests on the northern side of Mount Etna. The trail develops across volcanic tracks and forest paths typical of this part of the volcano.
Stop at Piano Provenzana
The tour reaches Piano Provenzana (about 2000 meters) where there is a stop with a clear view of the summit craters of Mount Etna. Participants can relax, take photos and, if they wish, have something to eat before returning.
Return to the starting point
After the stop the group gets back on the quads and follows the return route descending the volcano and returning to the starting point in the Alcantara Valley.
